New England Aquarium Boston
With over 2000 different species of fish, plus sea lions, turtles and penguins, the New England Aquarium has plenty to see. The main attraction of the aquarium is the 200,000-gallon, four-story reef tank. A spiral stairway winds around the tank allowing you to see the action from all sides. And there is plenty to see! 5 times a day divers enter the tank to feed the sharks and other exotic species. The penguins are another crowd favorite, as are the sea lions, which perform daily on Discovery, a floating marine-mammal pavilion. The Aquarium also has a Medical Center with a large glass wall that allows you to watch the staff treat animals.
An unusual feature of the New England Aquarium is that not everything takes place within the four walls of the building. Guided Harbor Tours are available which teach the "Science of the Sea", and from April until November you can participate in a whale watching cruise. Obviously, these events require a separate admission fee. Across the way from the aquarium is the enormous Omnimax Theater which features larger than life films about nature and wildlife.
