While not technically a part of the city of Boston, Cambridge is certainly a part of the life of Boston and one of its most important elements. Home to one of the oldest universities in the United States, Harvard, and one of the most advanced, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); Cambridge is the home to some 30,000 students who come to the Boston area from across the country and around the world.
Cambridge is odd mix of the old, stuffy traditions of Harvard and the energy, rebellion and forward-thinking young people who crowd its streets, pubs and apartments. There is plenty to see here. Harvard is home to the Museum of Natural History. Harvard Square (which is actually a triangle) provides a great spot for people watching; and there are coffee shops where you can either grab a quiet cup to go, or sit around listening to the debates on every topic imaginable. A walk through this area of Cambridge is a definite "must" to complete your visit to Boston.
